Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Listing Notice 2: Activities which are likely to require the input from an Air Quality Specialist
The Environmental Impact Assessment Regulations in South Africa, as the name suggests, regulate environmental impact assessments, which need to be undertaken in order to obtain an environmental authorisation (“EA”). Once this in place the Project Owner is able to commence with the Project (for example the construction of a mine or development of an Independent Power Producer Project). Listing Notice 2 sets out activities which require a full scoping and environmental impact assessment process. These Projects usually fall in line with the World Bank / IFC definition of a Category A Project, e.g. Business activities with potential significant adverse environmental or social risks and/or impacts that are diverse, irreversible or unprecedented.
In order to help you minimise risk to your Projects, our air quality consultants have taken the time to undertake a full review of Listing Notice 2 (GNR 325), and have extracted the relevant listings that may necessitate your project to require an Air Quality Impact Assessment, and /or apply for an Atmospheric Emission Licence. Please feel free to contact our consultants for additional information or clarification on any of the listings below.
